BECHDEL- WALLACE TEST.

The Bechdal test is named named after the American cartoonist Alison Bechdal. The Bechdal test is also known as Bechdal-Wallace test. it as a measure of representation of women in fiction. It asks whether a work features at least two women who talks to each other about something other than men. The requirement that the two woman must be named is sometimes added.

The rules now known as the Bechdal test first appeared in 1985 in Alison Bechdel's comic strip Dykes to watch out for. In a strip titled "the rule" two woman, are seen discussing a film and one woman explains that she only goes to a movie if it satisfies the following requirements :-

1. The movie has to have at least two woman in it.

2. Who talks to each other.

3. About something other than man

The test is used as an indicator to show how active woman in the entire field of film and calls for gender equality. The test is not to show how feminist a movie is but it highlights how male dominant indian cinema really is.

In Vogue magazine it is said that, although it has been thirty years since the test was discovered, the films are not meeting the tests basic requirements. The Bechdel test is an informal way to valuate bias against woman in films and other media. The test is important because it highlights something that says a lot about the film industries priorities. It also brings out the subconscious values in our society and the lack of convincing woman in movies is purely a result of hatred. The intent of the movie is to understand if a woman is giving a fair chance to the woman.

There are number of movies which shows how ignorant they area about the test. But there are some movies which has passed the Bechdel test, like, "Ajeeeb Dastaan", it is a Netflix original movie. There are many scene in the movie where there are at least two woman and they have names and are talking about men but other issues. Another example is the movie "Hush" and it is all about a murder and there are no conversation about men/
